That's a good one BA.
Good to know. Thanks
My husband ordered the newly introduced Girl Scout cookies: toffee -tactic ( gluten free) and raspberry something. The raspberry cookies never arrived. The toffee cookies were $6 for a 6.7 oz box and the raspberry cookies were only going to be $5. Maybe the raspberry cookies aren't gluten free - not that we care. We haven't tried the toffee cookies made with rice flour and 70 calories each! Has anyone tried these?
Sally's baking addiction soft baked white chocolate cranberry cookies! They are great!
I had to buy a small toaster oven since our unit here in Florida doesn't have one. I made tuna melts with chopped carrots and a little pickle juice, mayo of course and celery salt. I had to top it with Swiss as I didn't have sharp provolone. First I toast the English muffins then I bake the topped muffins. Call me crazy but I like the tuna on the cinnamon raisin English muffins.
I'm found a top round steak in the freezer. So I pulled out my slow(fast) cooker. I cut steak up in chunks, threw in a couple of carrots, beef broth, onion soup mix, pepperoncini and some liquid from jar, honey and several spices from my larder. It was delicious. I think I tasted the broth a few times to makes adjustments.
Because of the relatively warm weather (45*) we grilled 8 burgers ,6 for future meals. I also sauted onions to go on top with sliced grape tomatoes. Time to clean out freezer in preparation for Florida!
It is certainly a bummer when you plan and bake and cook and clean and your plans go "Poof"! But that's life and on we go with a smile on our face and hope that somehow it was all for the best!
I had lard leftover from my stollen recipe. I saw that recipe for Biscochitos in the paper and I was going to try it until I discovered the supermarket did not have anise seeds. Somehow I found a recipe for polvorones using lard and almonds. The flour and almonds were toasted in oven. The cookies were baked at 300 degrees. The recipe called for the cookies to be baked for 15min. They took a good 40 minutes. None of the reviews mentioned that the timing was off. I substituted Cointreau for brandy. My cookie taster thought they were very tasty. I then proceeded to check other recipes for these cookies. They were all over the rainbow. Lesson is: when you find a recipe you have mastered ,stick with it!
Wow! A lot goes into making that candy! Makes you appreciate it so much more! Thanks BA.
A loss of a loved one's life is always tough but it seems especially so around the holidays.
Wishing you strength.December 12, 2022 at 12:38 pm in reply to: What are you Cooking the Week of December 11, 2022? #37347I had top round steak in freezer and no energy.....so I pulled out the crockpot, stuck the frozen steak in it and proceeded to throw everything within reach into the pot. I served the blah beef with garlic mashed potatoes. Motto: "you get out of it what you put into it".
My daughter and I made the KA "Easiest Stollen " . I used my own dried fruit mix which included raisins, currents and citron. As Larry David would say :"pretty, pretty good!!
Correction the Biscochitos recipe calls for 3 cups of FLOUR not sugar! OOPs!
I am thinking of making Biscochitos for our wine gathering. I saw a recipe in our paper and thought they sounded interesting. I couldn't read the reviews because I don't subscribe to the Sacramento Bee. Anyway I compared several recipes but none had only 1/2 tsp baking powder for 3 cups of sugar. (paper recipe). Am thinking less baking powder, more crispy?
