Carol...I have been watching and hoping for your safety during this storm system. Hoping RandyD's place didn't get ruined. Glad you had minimal damage.
I sent jej all the places back in May and have been hoping she would join us. I thought yesterday that I should tell her I got all of her nearly 100 BC recipes moved here. I had saved them long ago from the BC and sent them all to her in groups of five but I think she misplaced them or something.
I think it would do her a lot of good to mingle with us and feel a part of something good.
This lady had out 10 feeders at the time of the video but in a few days she said she was down to three feeders.
For many long weeks, I fought the W10 installation. I had to piddle with it every day as they got it downloaded with TWO versions...one had 2800 some files or whatever it is and one had 2600 some...how lucky I was with that. I figured out how to stall it and after July 29, the last day it was free, when I started my computer they were gone. A scan had a whole lot less files. Windows Update now says it is reserved and I hope it stays that way. They had been listed as ready to install thru 7/29.
Sam's is 150 mi. round trip from us and I think maybe Costco is in Indianapolis.
I order enough stuff from jet.com to keep us running. My son lives in Des Peres, MO and they have a Trader Joe's but I don't get there very often. That city is not very big at all so I was surprised and another suburb not far away from there has one and it is a small population, too.
September 1, 2016 at 6:47 pm in reply to: Did You Cook Anything Interesting the Week of August 21, 2016? #4595chocomouse...it is SO nice to see you here. I always enjoyed your pics of gardening and the blueberry plants. Hoping your retirement will bring you much joy! Hope to see you here often.
Rottiedogs has done such a great job and BakerAunt has done so, also. I still have the Zucchini thread to get posted.
We have 84 of my recipes and 37, I think, of Mike's that are not in the total because they don't have 'by' in the title...that's what I think, anyway.
Wondering if anyone has any news on Cindy. I sent her an e-card. She opened it the next day but didn't reply so I thought maybe she was not doing well. I hate to bug her with emails so have not written to her for a few weeks.
Mike...I have not had many computer problems, just a couple of bad security updates. July 15 for three days and August 16 and 17...after a big update they fixed the goof-up. I have a W7 computer that will not do Windows updates. I have read many have this issue and have seen fixes but they are time consuming so have not done anything. The last updates were May 26 so I'm afraid to use it.
Indianapolis is a good three hour drive from us. There is a Trader Joe's there but I'll never get there most likely.
When I saw this post, it reminded me of a jej recipe I posted here:
She used to talk about the miners taking these down into the mines for their lunches as the crusts were so sturdy.
Cornell finally got their West Texas Hummingbird cam up and running...Fort Davis, TX.
They'll have 12 species traveling thru their set-up during fall migration. Just below the bird cam there is a species information tab that tells of the ones that frequent their feeders. There is also info there on the elevation and number of feeders the group has out come fall migration.
Also, notice the new style hummer feeder top right on the cam screen.
And, here is the camera info two of the birding forum folks use...$ 1500.00 when new:
the camera is a nikon d90, the lens that I used is the nikon: AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm 1:35-5.6G ED.
Their pictures are calendar quality. The lens is very long and very heavy to handle.

I found this short video of the WI lady's hummers...she has 10 feeders, so can you imagine how many she gets?...her sugar bill is large!

A local birding expert told my husband a few years ago the male ruby-throats head south in late July. The females follow a bit later. A birding forum lady in west central WI puts out 10 hummer feeders and she says the same thing about late July for the males. She says it gets so lonely after all the activity slows down to a crawl after such a huge amount of visitors. She puts short videos on Facebook showing the huge amount of activity.
I don't put out hummer feeders as we have honey bees and yellow jackets and it is a constant battle for the hummers with all the stinging critters at the sugar water. The hummers love our mimosa trees and fight each other like there is little food for them when there are thousands of blooms. They squeal and dive at each other something awful.
The WI lady takes such gorgeous hummer pics and she has one male that comes back each year...she knows because has a little white ear patch.
Those are all amazing pics! Thanks for sharing them, Mike...I put the links on our birding forum for many others to enjoy. We have some outstanding photographers on the forum and some of their cameras are very expensive. Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology has a page of participants' photos and they are so beautiful. Wish I had such a camera as some of them use.
Here is a link to a story this week from Audubon on a huge survival project:

PJH said many years ago that if you have unsalted and need salted, add 1/4 teaspoon salt per stick of butter...so since you have salted butter, you could reduce the recipe salt using this info but I would not reduce the recipe salt as biscuits are kinda blah anyway and the salt would help them to have more flavor.
Glad your internet problem is resolved. I figured it was on my end but all the other places were working. In the last few days I've heard of other areas of the country with internet down for even several days. SC and LA are currently working on issues.
We're better off than we thought...I copied this from Zen's site where she talks of how she copied recipes:

Re: Baking Circle Extended to May 24
PostPosted by Pyewacket » Tue May 24, 2016 5:59 amFor now, I'm thinking I'll compress them all into one or several zip files and put them up on Dropbox. I'm not sure if I have room in my account at the moment, but we'll see. Then I can post a link to them and anyone can get them.
Right now they're in HTML format - I downloaded the entire web page, including all pictures, so you can do with them anything you want. That Paprika recipe program suggested by Carol seems to handle web pages just fine, but I've not fiddled with it enough yet to be sure how accurate it is or what formats I can export with it.

Here is more from a post above this one:

I have had my head buried in the recipe forum over there for so long now, I didn't even take time to EAT let alone check the forums for announcements. I was actually afraid to navigate away from the recipes as I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get back in. The site actually glitched Wed night and I thought it had gone down - but it was back up after about an hour after all.But I GOT IT ALL. Every recipe in the recipe forum, I have it. I may have missed a few by accident, but as well as I can tell, I got 'em all.
Now what do we want to do with them? LOL!
--------There were 4300+ recipes in all on the BC.
I have the Zucchini Bounty thread to get posted soon. There is lots of clean up to do on the copies I made.
We have been 98F for three weeks, I think, and with no A/C my motivation is low.
Rottiedogs still has a lot of recipes and threads to post.
