Mike...they have rain on the next seven days for us. They had said Sunday would be less rainy but tonight they said there is a better chance of Sunday rain. Sure hope they get the race in. Lots of $$$ spent to enjoy the race.

It is getting dire around here for the farmers with all the rain for months. They get government payments for acres not planted due to weather but with fewer acres planted the price of foods will certainly increase a lot. I think for corn crops, planting after June 6 the yields go down a lot each day after that. It gets too hot during pollination times when planted later.

Hoping the garage sale won't be a washout. Maybe folks will come out just to do something besides watch it rain.

Italiancook...thanks for the nice birthday wishes and for the recipe. That sounds really good! I have enjoyed reading your posts here and am glad to have
you here with us. I live in Southeast Illinois in the country. I grew up on a 160 acre dairy farm where we milked, at most, 100 Jersey and Guernsey cows. I've been married for 49 years in a few days. My husband taught elementary school for 40 years. He retired ten years ago and has driven a school bus almost every day those ten years. He started driving a school bus in 1978 so he could take his kids on educational field trips.

Looking forward to reading many more of your posts!

Thanks to all of you for the nice birthday wishes! We have had storms much of the day and I'm just getting online for the first time today. We have rain/storms in the forecast for the next seven days and it seems like it has rained 90% of the days this year. I'm 67 today and am grateful for every day I get to wake up again.

Very sad about the companies faced with this ordeal overseas.

More on our sugar tax. IL residents have paid 6.25% tax on all sugar type drinks for several years. It will be 7.25% in our county 7/1. Today, we were met with this news:

Scrambling to find new sources of money, the Illinois legislature is considering a tax on sugary drinks. The proposed tax would impose a penny per ounce tax on sugar-sweetened beverages, syrups or powders. If imposed, the measure would generate up to $600 million a year in new revenue.

It won't cost us a cent as we don't buy anything like those items but most folks do purchase these things. Evidently a lot of folks!

IL has 1% on foods and drugs. Some agriculture chemicals/seeds and some feeds are tax free. We buy shelled corn and cracked corn and there is no tax. Sunflower seeds go for 6.25% tax. They say sunflower seed is not feed...however Google has articles saying many feed horses sunflower seed so it seems like feed to me.

                We'll never win!

Illinois, a few years back, started a sugar tax so they could grab more bucks. We have a sales tax # for our businesses and they sent us a list of the new foods and drinks the new gouges would come up on. Husband bought a 3 ounce box of chocolate covered raisins a few weeks ago and it went for high tax.

Our school district, this past March primary election, asked the voters for a 1% tax hike on the usual 6.25% items and they got it. So, now beginning 7/1/16, we pay 7.25%. I don't buy candy for us but I do buy a lot of it for my nursing home buddies each month when I take them many boxes of goodies. Rice Krispie treats also went for high tax that we bought for the nursing home goodies recently.

The state's logic was the tax would keep people from buying soda and candy which are bad for them.

We have 47 email addresses so far, I think, from BC friends so that is pretty good. Hoping to get more before the BC closes. I'll add the ways to contact and sign up for the new places we can meet at the bottom of the email list I send out.

The label for my 4-loaf pan by Chicago Metallic says 15 1/2" x 6"...really a nice heavy pan. KA sold them long ago.

Just an extra, my favorite pan of all time has to be the Danish loaf pan I got years ago from KA. It is long and narrow and bakes banana breads so well...no wet sunken middle. Nice smaller size slices. It measures 12 x 4 wide by 2 1/2 high. KA has sold a ceramic one more recently but have never seen a metal one since.

We were worried about our tomato plants we planted last weekend as we got down to 38F Sat. morning. Really cold for this time of year. I counted 57 plants yesterday when I went out to check on them. One has the top nipped off by a rabbit but it will recover. We'd planned to plant some other things but we have had constant rains for weeks and it is just too wet for things to thrive. One neighbor said his green bean seeds rotted in the ground. Just too wet.

I meant not available in Europe now like the ones folks used to buy. I know I can edit a post for two days. Another 4-loaf bread pan that is no longer available, it appears, in Europe, is the the round crimped pans with the locks to hold them closed. This baker at Hy-Vee said they also used the round crimped pans for different kinds of breads, raisin bread included. I like round breads and always loved making my Bucket Bread recipe and using my 20-Minute Apple Butter on it. I read on Zen's forum about the restaurant supplies having the 4-loaf pans in a frame. I have a pan from KAF that bakes 4 small loaves and it is in a frame. I think it is Chicago Metallic as KA was special ordering a lot of pans from Chicago Metallic at the time. I got a bunch of 7 x 3 bread pans when KAF was selling them at a discount and they were CM made. They make great bake sale quick breads.

Several years ago, a great young BCer with four kids and a dairy farm manager husband worked at a Hy-Vee store bakery. Someone was on the BC trying to locate one and this baker said they used hem to bake raisin bread in. She said they sold a ton of the breads.

Years ago, KAF sold the Ecko brand but many want the ones made in Europe. The shipping was ungodly high and a few BCers found friends overseas to get them one and ship it here. They appear to not even be available now. I've seen them on Ebay and places like that when I searched for them for BCers.

Hello...finally made it here. In a lot of ways, I think we'll be better off without the BakingCircle. Hoping to see many of our old friends here.
