Italiancook...you use only the baking soda and Bakewell Cream...I make up a small container of it and just use it teaspoon for teaspoon as called for in the recipe. You use the salt called for in the recipe and no other baking powder.
You might like to browse the Bakewell Cream site.
Happy biscuit baking!
If you look for Bakewell Cream at KAF, they say it is the Maine equivalent of cream of tartar. It is made in Maine. There is a famous Bakewell Cream biscuit recipe on the can.
Bakewell also produces a Bakewell baking powder but the Bakewell Cream is mixed with baking soda to make my favorite baking powder.
KAF Self-Rising Flour product label
I used my hand lens to read the Ingredients on the Self-Rising KAF bag...
LEAVENING (BAKING SODA, SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE,
MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE),and it shows salt last...
This leavening uses baking soda and the rest of the leavening is the same as the Bakewell Cream so many of us old BCers love for baking biscuits. We had many threads about how many of us loved the Bakewell Cream. You use fresh baking soda and the Bakewell Cream to make great baking powder.
KAF absolutely uses no aluminum containing baking powder in their self rising flour or any of their other products/mixes. The BalingCircle talked of this for years and KAF always stated their no aluminum thing.
Also on the BakingCircle, I learned when I first joined, the homemade self rising flour was...to one cup all purpose flour add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt. This came from a BC member. KAF has on their site that they use 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Today, I got a nice little surprise phone call. Oriental Trading called and asked if I'd complete a short survey and I said OK. It was very brief and when done the lady said they'd like to send me a $ 10.00 certificate good for one year if that was OK with me. I said sure and she said it would be emailed today. In just a little while the email arrived. These days folks don't get many little perks like this. I buy so much thru the year for the nursing home residents and my husband bought large orders for his kids the 40 years he taught grade school...they are a great place to buy things by the dozens.
The cans of chicken are just 5 oz. now and have way too much liquid. When the yogurt went to 6 oz. rather that 8 oz., I called it the 'why bother' size.
Many coffee bags now are 10 oz. Ice cream is in such weird ounces that it is ridiculous. Almost everything has been pared down in size, actually.
Carpentry items are just as bad. Tubes of things have been reduced in size. Plastic roof cement is in .9 gallon buckets. Many bags of concrete patch/mix are in much smaller weight bags. On and on it goes with almost everything.
That is a nice article. Kidpizza used to tell us about freezing dough balls for making his pizza. He mentioned the increase of yeast as some die-off will always occur in the freezer.

Do you know how to copy/paste? I'm on a laptop and just highlight the address bar of what I want to copy by right-clicking on that line, it will turn blue and I click Copy, Then I go to where I want to Paste it, right click again and select Paste in the box and it should appear for you.
We never have any as we live way out in the country and are down a very long driveway they have to back out of.
We had a little boy probably 15 years ago and that is all we remember. I always have a lot of nice things I could hand out if someone comes. I buy a lot of seasonal items from Oriental Trading that would make nice hand-outs for the kids. Each month of the year, I fix 3-4 boxes or so of pretty seasonal goodies for our local nursing home residents. They appreciate my things so very much. Oriental Trading has the best things I can use to brighten the residents days. For Halloween, I gave them 24 bright orange/white chevron round tubs with a snack cake and a Halloween rubber duckie and a Halloween ghost pencil. So, even though we don't have trick-or-treaters at home, I have lots of fun putting together fun things for my nursing home buddies.
I agree about the proofreading...our local newspaper is so bad with spelling and even just getting things correct in their paper. They mess up obituaries and have to re-run them and they goof up on family thank you type ads when a loved one has died. As I read the paper, I say the problems out loud and shake my head.
Someone didn't read very carefully before they posted this contest.
