Antoon eats Nori almost every day . Could not get that one wrong !
Well hello everybody ! Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I found my old password sheet and here I am. Speculaas molds that I have (besides very old ones) are made by Gene Wilson . http://www.cookiemold.com. I also have the book "Cookie Molds" by Anne L. Watson. When we were still on the Baking circle I made a remark that her speculaas recipe was not very good and low and behold she answered . The molds by Gene are beautiful. I have Sint Nicolaas on the horse. I also have the Dutch boy and girl.. My old molds have windmills, sail boats, and so on. I had pictures on the BC. but do not know where I have them now, The speculaas did keep the shapes nice and sharp.
Cindy, my heart aches for all the misery you are going through ! You really are the bravest woman I know !It must be your up-beat personality that keeps you going. And of course the love and support of TS. I think of you every day.
Carol, thank you for keeping us posted.Rottiedogs, I already thanked you for posting the Rijsttafel recipes from Brian. You are doing a BIG BIG job. with putting all the recipes here. Thank you again.
Rottiedogs, I am so glad to see all the rijsttafel dishes from Brian J. Wood. Thank you very much.
My 2 granddaughters were over at our house.Every year during summer vacation we go shopping to get some new school clothes . something like this " 3 tanktops is enough ! Buy something with long sleeves.Winter is coming" Can you wear that to school ?" No, no shorts. Buy some jeans !(They are both in High school.)It is always a great success and they are happy with their new loot ! What do you girls want for dinner ? (I was hoping for a nice restaurant name) :"We want croquettes oma !" Thank goodness I had the meat for that in the freezer. So I made the ragout (melted butter, beef bouillon, dried onions and flour), put the meat in and spread the mixture on a big platter, to cool off as quick as possible. Then I called those 2 ladies into the kitchen and they shaped them and rolled them in egg and bread crumbs.I deep fried them outside, so I did not have that oil smell in the house. Those are the best croquettes we ever had oma !! Of course they say that every time. I love those girls.
Cass, Your last sentence made me sad, I hope that it will turn out better than you are expecting.
I baked an apple pie for Antoon's birthday. It is his favorite. Used apples from my own tree and a few of my brother's tree. Used tapioca flour as a thickening and also put a layer of dried apples on the bottom of the crust. It was a great success !
I need to pick the rest of the apples otherwise they are going to be apple sauce while hanging on the tree. That is how hot it is !!YooHoo !! You made it over here ! Great.!! I am glad you were able to celebrate your birthday with your friend. Just the way you like it. In our hearts and minds we celebrated right along with you.!
My dear Secret Agent Man, Happy, happy Birthday ! I am so glad you are home again. With your pacemaker you should be good as new. !! So we all expect many posts from you.
But all joking aside, I do hope you have a good recovery . A big hug from your friend....Ria.Nina, have you heard any thing more ? Did he get the pace maker ?
Mike, just take all the time you need . We are happy to be here and on Zen's site.
Jenn, of course you can buy all the flour and other things you need from KAF. And use their recipes. Many of us will do the same. Me included, but I will not go out of my way to do so, or sing their praises to family and friends. Like BakerAunt said, they have become just another company .
That is so cute Italiancook, to give Swirth a birthday present. She is our treasure. We all depend on her for so many things. I tell you, we are very lucky to have her !
That is a very nice post Mike. All that information in one place. Thanks.
Dear Swirth,
Happy happy birthday. I hope all your feathered friends will serenade you today ! -
