Again, no baking this past week. I've finally put away all my canning stuff so now I can focus on baking again.
I do remember putting one of the chives out and it started to thrive. I would use it if I hadn't seen the dog "water" it several times. And the Lily of the Valley plants that my mother had planted nearby has overtaken it too. I tried to grow thyme but it got totally moldy after a few weeks. I don't cook much with fresh herbs except for chives/onions. Now if I could only get one to grow year round without the aphid problems.
I have never been able to grow chives for a long period of time. All the times I tried, they've been indoor plants, in the north facing window and suddenly, they're overcome with black aphids. The only herb I've been able to grow successfully was the basil plants that I finally had to do away as I just couldn't keep up with the supply it was producing.
Made three trays of KAF Honey Bars for a work meeting. Everyone loves it. No bread making as I just didn't have any time. Seeing the thread about Finnish Rye bread, made me realize that I hadn't made it for a while so will put that on the list to make again in the near future.
One thing that we liked as kids that my mom used to make to help stretch the meal was steamed egg dish - it's only eggs, water, and salt and pepper. She would occassionally add the dried salted shrimp. You can make them in individual ramikins. Or any Asian stir-fry dishes and just add extra veggies. That's what I used to do when I was doing WW, literally cut all the rice out of the meals. Hope this helps.
No baking for me this past week. I did pull out the last loaf of bread from the freezer so some baking is going to this week, just don't know when.
I bought a perforated double one last year and have used it a couple of times. I've made the Vienna bread and sourdough in it. I've also divided the dough into fourths and made hoagie rolls in it too. Good luck with the bidding and hope you get it.
I haven't bought any of their products in years. My favorite has always been the Twinkie especially the Tiger Stiped ones. Don't see that one very often anymore.
Slowly getting back to baking again. Wanted to try out the ATK Blueberry Muffin recipe. I had saved a Cooking Light recipe for Blueberry Lemon Yogurt muffins but the last time found them to be a bit more tougher. The ATK ones were more tender. Also made KAF Cinnamon Apple Raisin Challah - 2 loaves, one for home and one for work. Also still looking for a good biscuit recipe - I know, I know, there was a huge discussion by Mrs. Cindy on the old BC site. I did find a good cornbread biscuit recipe so have been using that as the base for the plain biscuit recipe. Of course, this is a slow hunt as I have to eat what I make before trying a new batch
Mine is KAF Cinnamon Raisin Sourdough bread. Taking a break from sourdough right now so haven't tried any other cinnamon swirl bread. Will be interested what others like.
For me, what makes a great loaf is the lack of separation between the swirls (mine always tend to separate in various degrees) and to have cinnamon swirl visible. I've had the swirl "disappear" after baking.

Did some baking for future lunches, cornbread biscuits, pineapple upside down muffins. These I just bake ahead, wrap individually or pack in mason jars, and freeze. A coworker who raises chickens as a hobby, decided to share his bounty of eggs so I used his eggs to make him a loaf of challah bread. I also tried making Bernard Clayton's chopped apple bread. I think after we finish this loaf, I'm going to try to make it less messy.
Just made a simple family's recipe for Apple Cake. Full recipe to bring to work and half recipe for home.
Ok, found a place to post my weekly baking attempts π Trying to keep up with all the different websites we all set up. Anyway, this past week was a little bit of baking - made cornbread - any tips of how to keep it fresh beyond the first day? Then yesterday made KA Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies with one of my nephews who's never made cookies before. He was quite proud that he "helped" making the cookies. Sent him home w/2 dozen of those cookies.
