I missed it.
I picked up tacos from a local Mexican Restaurant.
The Schwans truck use to run around here but haven't seen one in years.
I got the right answer but have never used any.
I can't join the party either, computer has no camera and my phone is an old flip phone,it has a camera that I don't know how to use,yep we're way behind...but ya'll have fun!
May 2, 2020 at 10:18 pm in reply to: What are you Baking the week of April 26, 2020 (started a day early) #23480I made a loaf of sourdough using leftover mashed potatoes and the potato water,I decreased the salt from 3/4 tsp to 1/4 tsp because the potato water was salted and the potatoes. The bread is very good,I baked it in a 8x4 and it's 5 inches high, had very good oven rise. The added potatoes makes for a soft bread which I like.
We had grilled chicken marinated in Italian dressing with baked potato and the leftover salad from the taco salad.
I ruined a Greek salad I was making for a big dinner one night, opened wrong end of Tone pepper jar about a half cup came out,I rinsed the salad off still had to chunk whole thing,I was pissed.I picked out the feta chunks rest was trashed.
I had no idea,missed it.
We're having meatloaf, mashed potatoes and garden peas.I've been getting my starter up to par so tonight I'll make some sourdough and will add in the leftover potatoes and use the water they cooked in for the water. We'll see how that works out.
Yesterday I made pizza for me and love letting the dough rise with just 1/4 tsp. of yeast as ya'll told me and I made spaghetti for my husband,he doesn't care for pizza and I think if you're doing the cooking you should get what you want sometime, lol. My pizza had sausage, pepperoni, black olives, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and pickled banana peppers yummy and I've had a piece for breakfast this morning. We've done a grocery run to Publix already and I found KAF all purpose flour unbleached 5 # bag for $3.99,I checked and no yeast but I'm fine for awhile.
Skeptic I enjoyed reading that article of yeast also, thanks.
No idea, missed it but nice to know.

I stir my hooch back in also, after mine has been refrigerated for a while it'll form the hooch and you can smell the alcohol. One of the ways I've read to tell if it's ready for baking is to test a tablespoonful in a cup of water,if it floats it's ready, that's what I do and I don't need any yeast for it to work.
Aaron another thing I read was never pour starter down your sink as it will stop it up ...as they say.
