I like my tomato sauce smooth. I run the tomatoes through a blender (counter top blender) then strain it through a fine mesh strainer. That removes the seeds and any small lumps. Then I season it and cook it a bit, usually add tomato paste to thicken it and it adds good flavor. I have found that a blender works better then a food processor for this.

That looks interesting, BakerAunt. I just might give that a try. But first I have half a box of lasagna noodles to use up................

Sorry about your freezer, Mike. It's really frustrating when refrigeration isn't working. Several years ago I bought a La Crosse digital thermometer, it consists of sending units (it comes with one but you can add up to 3) and a receiving unit (pictured). I have one sending unit in my fridge and one in my chest freezer. This way I can tell at a glance if my refridgeration is working correctly. A couple of years ago I was able to catch a problem with my fridge early on and repair it before it caused a real problem.

The top crust has softened up since it's been covered but it still doesn't taste like cinnamon buns. Like I said, it's more show then substance. I had to try it, once.

BakerAunt, I love it when simple meals are tasty.

Tonight I made a vegatable lasagna. I haven't made a lasagna is a couple of years. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Yesterday I made the cinnamon bun apple pie. I used Honeycrisp apples. The pie in the video is prettier than mine, but they may have made several dozen of them to get a photo worthy one. The cinnamon roll top crust is more show then taste. It came out kind of hard. It's possible the fault is the crust recipe I used (I used an oil recipe, 2 1/2 cups of flour and a half cup each of oil and milk). The pie in the Emile Henry video uses a store bought refrigerated crust.

The pie itself is good, it's just that the top crust wasn't worth the effort.

BakerAunt, one of the things I do is to reduce oil in box cake mixes by subbing 1/2 of it with plain Greek yogurt. It works pretty good.

Yesterday I made a box vanilla cake (Arrowhead Mills). I added a generous teaspoon of cake spice from The Spice House and as stated above, subbed 1/2 of the oil with Greek yogurt. I used walnut oil.

A little while back I was looking at peach pie recipes on youtube and was jealous of the nice stoneware pie plates some people used so I went on Amazon to look at them (and bought one). While there I ran across a video posted by Emile Henry about an apple pie that has a cinnamon bun top crust. It isn't a yeasted top crust like you would expect from cinnamon buns, but rather it is a standard pie crust that you turn into cinnamon buns, then roll it out to the size you need and put that on top of the pie. I will try to post the link here,

I want to make it soon!

I baked chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies, about 5 dozen in total. I baked them 2 sheets at a time using the convection bake mode, something I normally don't do. They turned out pretty good. I also baked 2 dozen cupcakes (from a box mix) and will frost them tomorrow. It's all for tomorrow's block party.

I made up some oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookie dough, portioned it out and froze it (baked a few for "quality control"). I'll be baking them either Friday or Saturday to bring to our block party on Saturday. They're calling for rain but hopefully it will hold off until late.

                          That sounds delicious, BevM!

Tonight I baked a pork chop and had it with some pasta and a large salad.

I haven't made any kind of pie in a long time and haven't made a peach pie in years. So today I made a peach pie. I followed a recipe on Youtube but seasoned it with a pinch of cloves and a couple of drops of almond extract. I cheated on the crust, used the refrigerated Pillsbury pie crust. I won't know how it turned out until tomorrow (if I can contain myself tonight) but I think it looks good.
