I agree with you, BakerAunt, I'm also looking forward to comparing prices again. I also long for the days I can again find what I want in stores locally so I don't have to pay shipping costs. Bleach is scarce here. I happened onto a website with bleach one afternoon and paid almost $15.00 to have ONE bottle of Clorox bleach delivered!!! But Clorox wipes are out everywhere, and bleach with water makes a disinfectant.
I tried my hand at bell peppers with onions and sausage. What a project. I'll never do it again. I didn't have Italian sausage, so I used up some sausage links. I browned them and didn't drain the oil out of the pan. I decided the veggies would taste better in sausage grease. I cut the sausages into 1/2 inch pieces.
I tried slicing the onions in what Julie Child called the correct way. What a bother! I finally switched back to my tried and true wrong way. Having never made or seen this before, I sliced the green and red pepper as thinly as I could. Painstakingly thin. After I pulled the sausage out of the skillet, I added water to deglaze the pan then added olive oil.
After the onions were sauteed, I added the peppers, a little water, and a lid to steam. My husband, who has also never eaten this concoction, said the peppers need to be soft. So I overcooked them. They were so thin and soft it was difficult to get them on the fork. Would have been better off in a bowl with a spoon. I wasn't wild for the taste and will never do this again.
My grandmother's house had a cubby area in the wall at the middle of the stairs. She stored a 50 pound bag of flour there. Every time she wanted to bake, my dad had to carry the flour down to the kitchen for her. It was always in the bag. I don't know how she kept it sealed to protect it from bugs.
I agree with you, kimbob, that KAF cinnamon chip bread is delicious! I made blueberry muffins for breakfast and the freezer.
I had never heard of Loquats. Growing up, there was a boy at church who loved kumquats, so I was able to make a correct guess.
I made Beouf Bourignon (sp?) from Cook-Ahead Cookery for tomorrow's dinner -- serving with noodles. My husband made waffles for today's lunch, and I made grilled cheese for dinner.
Thanks for the photos, Mike. I don't think I'll use a cornstarch wash even if the recipe calls for it. There's a more rustic look to the bread with it, but I'll pass.
I knew this.
I'm making chicken & orzo soup for lunch. For dinner, Potatoes & eggs scrambled together & link sausage. So, an easy day for me.
When I broke a finger, Schwan's was a life saver. I could microwave and heat up food, but I couldn't slice, peel, and dice. We enjoyed all the food we bought. Like all frozen food, it was saltier than I'd like. But that was a long time ago, so they may have lowered the sodium. Back then, you had to call for a catalog or place an online order for the truck to come to the home. I don't know how they work now. When my finger healed, I canceled the service. The delivery man told me he couldn't cancel the service. Corporate policy at that time was that I had to call customer service to cancel. I'd use them again if I couldn't cook or just wanted a break from cooking. Around Christmas time (maybe Thanksgiving), they had delicious cheesecake bites. Don't know if they still do those.
I have to pass. I don't own a laptop or a computer with a camera. I've asked my sister twice to walk me through how to use the camera on my phone, but she's always busy helping grandchildren with school work. I can't imagine how people who work from home do that plus the massive school work. My sister has also sent me Facebook and You Tube links that I can't open. But I'll look forward to reports from the pizza party. I'm just too low tech.
I missed this. I've eaten caviar only once. When my husband and I were newlyweds, we bought caviar from the grocery store. Probably not the best place to buy it. We strongly disliked it. So I've never bothered to read about or learn about caviar.
Thanks for the valuable info about ordering KA flour. I can understand why they need to keep the grocery stores stocked. BTW, has anyone ever bought Gold Medal unbleached flour? The main store I go to only carries that brand in bleached.
I figured out the right answer by deciding which fruit was most sweet and sour.
I probably don't have the technology to participate in a virtual pizza party. Remember, I've had a cell phone only a short time and don't know how to use it's features.
