      Probably a leftovers day here.

I made beef stew for Sunday's dinner. When the time comes to thicken it, I have been using ½ cup of quick oats that I grind to flour and then mix with water to make a slurry. It gives a slightly sweet taste to the stew and adds nutrition.

BA that sounds like a great idea!

Bought a 1.97 lb cabbage for 29 cents! Love the sale of 15 cents/lb. Made coleslaw this morning. Also, scored 2.5 lbs of chicken tenders for $5.17. Lots of tenders left over for other days. So that's dinner. I'm marinating the chicken.

We had more of the beef stew with the butternut squash rolls.

You did some good shopping Kimbob! I had hotdogs with coleslaw.

I got a few more tomatoes from my hydroponic garden, so we had tuna melts again.

Kimbob, I didn't know what nokedli is, so I had to look it up. Your dinner sounds delicious!

Yesterday I made oven baked ribs. I baked them at 250f for 3 hours, covered. they were very tender. A little bland but otherwise good. Had it with baked beans from a can (365 brand from Whole Foods), the beans were a bit hard, so not so good.

Len, I love ribs. Thanks for a dinner idea. I'm channeling my Hungarian grandmother and making some hungarian food lately. My husband was not a fan so I didn't make some things that I really love. Now I am. Lots of recipes use sour cream. Yum. I'm going to make pot cheese again tomorrow for pot cheese and noodles. And I'm using a recipe that adds potato flakes when making the nokedli because they come out lighter.

We're having that Irish favorite: Meat O'Loaf tonight. (But at least it has green peppers on top.)

I suppose I could call it Bullin Feola, which is Gaelic for 'loaf of meat'.

(It was either that or Left O'Vers.)

Groan. However, I salute your punning prowess, Mike

I had planned to cook a chicken and rice dish for dinner on Tuesday in honor of Scott's birthday. However, after we had some of his chocolate cake after 3 p.m., and I had some coffee while he had tea with his, I saw an Ancestry email, opened it, and the next thing I knew, Scott was asking me about dinner at 6:15 p.m. Oops. Fortunately, we had enough stew and rolls for one more night, and I will do the chicken tomorrow. Stew is perhaps more in keeping for St. Patrick's Day.

The Ancestry search that was set off ended in my finding a picture of one of my great, great-grandmothers and a relative to contact who may have some additional information about that part of my family.

I also made yogurt on Tuesday.

I had planned to make falafel tonight, but I didn't leave work until 6. I wasn't sure what I had and then I remembered that I had bought some deli corned beef (boar's head) and some KerryGold cheddar on sale just because I might want some this week. I made a corned beef and cheddar sandwich with arugula, mayo and Dijon on toasted English muffin toasting bread. It was perfect.

I had leftover ribs, green beans and cauliflower.

Yeah, it's easy to lose yourself in Ancestry.com for hours on end. I spent a lot of time on it some years ago trying to track down my father, who left us when I was around 5. I found out he died in Los Angeles in about 1983. Oddly enough, I don't remember him, even in my grandfather's old home movies the ones where he's in the picture the images I see of those events in my mind don't include him. The only memory I have is he called my sister on her birthday one year. She got an address, but letters came back marked undeliverable.
