No cooking here today at my friends in the pool so it's sandwiches and chips tonight will be watermelon.
July 12, 2026 at 7:07 pm #49653I bought some pickling cucumbers at the farmers market yesterday, so on Sunday, I made refrigerator pickles using some of the abundant dill in our garden. (We bought a plant, then a volunteer came up.) I cut the cucumbers into spears rather than slices. This morning, we picked blackberries out in our woodlands, but I will start dealing with those tomorrow.
For dinner, we finished most of the black-eyed peas with rice and ham. There is a little left over for me to have for lunch tomorrow.
July 12, 2026 at 7:48 pm #49655I made Greek Orzo Salad (with whole wheat orzo) from Ina's Go-To Dinners cookbook.
July 12, 2026 at 7:56 pm #49656July 13, 2026 at 7:19 pm #49659That is a fine looking pizza, Mike!
On Monday, I made salmon patties, which we had on buns I baked earlier in the day, along with a side salad.
July 13, 2026 at 7:27 pm #49661Good looking pizza Mike!
I had Mexican street corn and watermelon.
I tripped over a rug and hit my front door face on and look like I was run over by the train!I didn't break anything, just very sore and bruised .Popped a lens out of my glasses but it didn't break and I went today to get them put back in. Dang that rug ...it's gone now and won't be another one ever!
July 13, 2026 at 10:21 pm #49662I had the last of the pizza for lunch today, it reheated well.
Tonight was just sort of a 'make something for yourself' night.
July 14, 2026 at 7:54 am #49663Good to know you're OK, Joan!! I've "surveyed" all my rugs for the possibility of tripping and got rid of any that I thought might cause a problem. We mostly have hardwood floors, and only one throw rug right in front of the front door.
July 14, 2026 at 8:46 am #49664Scott and I are glad you are ok, Joan. It's amazing to me just how many tripping hazards are out there. Take care of yourself and recover quickly.
July 14, 2026 at 6:44 pm #49666Thank you for your concerns for me I am fine just so sore and looks like I got in a fight !I'll probably look like crap for 2-3 weeks but I am ok, so thankful no broken bones.
Today I had a chef salad easy and cool!
July 14, 2026 at 7:08 pm #49668I made stove top barbecued chicken thighs for dinner on Tuesday, which we had with a mixture of brown and wild rice, and sauteed zucchini pieces. Scott was not excited initially when I told him I wanted to cook one of the farmers market zucchini, but he liked how I let them get brown in the olive oil, and Annie liked them too. The zucchini also went well with the ketchup barbecue sauce on the chicken and rice.
Earlier on Tuesday, I used about 2 ¼ cups marginal blueberries (too soft to freeze or bake with) to make Blueberry Chia Seed Jam, which I have frozen to use in future rye bars, perhaps in the fall or winter.
July 14, 2026 at 10:19 pm #49671Joan, sorry about your misfortune with the rug.
Mike, that's a fine looking pizza!
On Sunday I made a couple of pork tenderloins on the BBQ. So, I've been eating from that all week.
July 15, 2026 at 6:54 am #49672Feel better, Joan!
Made a crabmeat artichoke casserole. Found it in one of my cookbooks from a school group in CT. It was pretty good. It made 4 servings so I'll be eating it for a while.
July 15, 2026 at 11:59 am #49674We've mostly hardwood floors, too, with a few area rugs, like near doors.
But the worst fall I've taken in a long time was when I tripped over a downspout en route to turning off an outside faucet. I hit my head on a lawn sprinkler, hit my shin on a big rock, destroying the pants and producing a huge bruise on the shin that still has several large scars 2 years later.
