Looks like our big SubZero fridge conked out this afternoon, probably the thermostat. We figured it out around supper time and I've transferred everything I felt was worth saving over to other refrigerators or a freezer, throwing out stuff that, honestly, should probably have been thrown out a long time ago. πŸ™‚

So I get to call the appliance people on Monday.

Refrigerators have a knack of knowing when it is a weekend AND the holiday season. Sigh.

Good luck with the repairs, Mike.

It's very frustrating when important appliances go on strike. I hope the repair is relatively easy.

Sorry to hear bout your freezer Mike. I too hope it's an easy repair. We went through our fridge and freezer after the power outage with the hurricane - we also had stuff that should have been tossed out before. A hazard of freezers

Probably won't be a repairman out to look at the refrigerator until Friday, and then it'll be a week-plus for parts, which puts us into Christmas week to do repairs. This is going to affect holiday meal planning.

Here's my refrigerator story. We did not realize that we had a slow leak in our ice maker line....for over a year. When our baseboard in the cut out for our refrigerator started bulging out we realized we had an issue. We discovered that the ice maker line (made of plastic) had a crack and voila! The plumber replaced the line with a stainless steel ? line. Bottom line my kitchen floor and beyond has mold as do the walls near the fridge. We have been a week without the use of our kitchen. The floor which runs from our kitchen through our dining area and living area will have to be replaced because floor warehouses no longer store samples.

Thermostat on order, if parts arrive on schedule it'll be installed on Friday, Dec. 20th, two days before our son arrives for Christmas.

Navlys--When we remodeled, we found that we had to use different bathroom tile because it was not made any more. When we remodeled the small kitchen in the Annex, we discovered that its flooring was not made any more. As that is a guest space, we found something as close as we could and went with it.

What we have learned is that flooring is available for a year or two, then the company moves on to other designs and colors. Unless you stock up--and who among us has the room?--then it is replace the entire floor.

I'm not a fan of recessed refrigerators, but that is what we also ended up with due to the cabinets. I like being able to clean the coils in back.

Here's wishing speedy repairs to Mike and to Navlys!

Thank you all for your concern. One of life's little glitches. We will really appreciate it when everything goes back to normal.
