Ventured out to Shoprite this morning because KAF is $2.69 per 5 lb bag with a limit of 4. Of course, I bought 4.

      On another topic....
During my 4 mile trek there , I passed 4 gas stations. Prices per gallon were: 3.95, 3.83, 3.79 and 3.93.

Whoa! That is great. We're on sale $4.50 for 5lbs with no limit. I'm buying a bunch as I've been using it up pretty quickly.

I stocked up on some 10 lb. bags in the fall, so I am set for a while. I did not see the kind of prices that kimbob and Aaron are reporting in my shopping foray last week.

A 5 lb bag of ap at the KAF main store in Norwich is 6.95, the same as all the local grocery stores' price. But last week I got a 50 lb bag there, wholesale price, for 49.95. Our local grocery stores never have it on sale.

Just found out our ShopRites have it for $2.95/5lbs so I may head there and by a bunch. Normally I buy 10lb bags at Costco for $9.99 but these are cheaper. Five lbs. is more convenient for home use but 10 lbs. is for challah making at temple. Golden whole wheat is on sale too. That appears to be the replacement for white whole wheat.

Last month when I was in Virginia, Safeway had 5 lb bags for 9.99; while Giants was 6.59. This month Safeway prices were 10.49 while I didn't look at Giants. I can't remember the prices at Kroger in Kentucky as I wasn't actively shopping last visit.

Aaron--golden wheat is the same as white whole wheat. King Arthur changed the name because the general public could not wrap their heads around how whole wheat could be white. The $9.99 for 10 lbs. is what I paid back in December at Walmart, and maybe at Kroger.

Chocomouse--King Arthur has been running shortages on certain items for nearly three months. Is that the same at the local store? They have a short paragraph on one of the shopping pages that apologizes for shortages and says that their people are working on it. On the plus side, I've found that Bob's Red Mill milk powder works just as well as the special dry milk, so I may not bother with that product when and if it comes back into stock.

The post office is planning to put a fuel surcharge on packages due to the rising cost of oil.

BakerAunt, I do not go to KAF very often, but was there last week. I wanted to try the Cherry Almond Scone mix, but they were out of it. I was told that flavor sells out as soon as they restock the shelves! I have not seen or heard about any shortages, but I'm really not in a position to know. I'll be there in a couple of weeks for an event they host (with snacks!) for all volunteers in the local area and I'll check then. I no longer use their special dry milk -- I've found that any dry milk powder/store brand I've tried works just as well.

I've read about increased shipping costs due to the rising cost of oil, but have not actually seen any increases yet.

Chocomous--Here is what King Arthur has posted on its website: "We apologize for the low inventory on mixes and other items, and thank you for your patience. Our team is working hard to bring your favorite baking ingredients back as quickly as we can."

The shortages include, but are not limited to, the Irish-style flour, and the double chocolate cocoa powder, as well as the special dry milk. They discontinued the malted wheat flakes which is a favorite ingredient of mine, and I have not found a replacement source.

The post office shipping surcharge is supposed to go into effect on April 26. It will be an 8% fuel surcharge on selected packages, affecting Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, and Ground Advantage. It will be in effect until January 17, 2027. (It may be longer if it takes the price of oil longer to come down.)

                        Here is the announcement:

In this week's ad, the price of KAF white flour is 5.59 for 5 pounds, down from 6.95. And 25 pounds is 25.99, although I've never seen 25 pound bags on the shelves in my store! Since I just bought 50 pounds at KAF, I don't need any flour.
