Election Cake Contest Winner

I remember back in 2016 that a recipe about election cake was circulating. I think that one member of the King Arthur Baking Circle tried it, but it did not come out well. I had been going to try it but ran out of time. Given that baker's report, and with a little more reading, I decided that maybe the recipe should be left in the past.

However, today, I read about an election day cake contest in Connecticut. The winning cake this year is spectacular, and it sounds like it would have a taste far superior to the election cakes of yore.
