I was intrigued by Stella Parks' Flour Frosting recipe. I seem to recall that S. Wirth has such a recipe as well:

This seems like a more complex recipe than the one Swirth talks about.
The recipe that I used was the cook milk and flour, let completely cool, add sugar and Crisco or butter and beat for at least eight minutes so granulated sugar was not gritty.
