Mike--What motivated the change?
Part of it is recognition that guild members bake a lot more than bread, and a growing percentage of the membership is outside of the USA these days.
Should I be more sympathetic to our international members? They joined a group with "America" in the name of the org and are now complaining that we do not represent them because we're an "American" organization.
The discussion on the BBGA forum seems less concerned with that than with using the word 'artisan', which has been co-opted by industrial scale bakers trying to pretend they're something they're not.
After a rather spirited discussion on the BBGA forum, the name change has been suspended.
