Aspen House Restaurant — Great Dining in the High Plains

Rawlins, Wyoming, is not the sort of place where you’d expect to find a great restaurant, but we did.

The Aspen House restaurant is in an old Victorian-style house built in 1905 that has been converted into a restaurant. The room we were in was probably a parlor or breakfast room, although it may have also been used by the doctor who built the house for his medical practice.

The restaurant’s website says that 90% of their menu is made from scratch. See
Aspen House.

When I mentioned my wife’s garlic allergy to our server, she was able to check with the kitchen and while there were a few proteins that were marinated in a garlic base, the shrimp alfredo was made from scratch without garlic, as an alfredo sauce is SUPPOSED to be made!

The portion was huge, an excellent value.

I had a Korean barbecue sandwich that was kind of like a stir-fry in a bun, with just enough heat to let you know it was there.

Sadly, we were too full to sample the desserts, which were tempting nonetheless.

Their address is 316 5th Street, Rawlins, WY. As their website proudly says, they serve their local community and those who, like us, are travelling down I‑80. They serve them well!

I would be drooling, even if I were not someone eating somewhat oddly this week as we pack up our kitchen. Thanks for sharing your experience, Mike.
