Grandma Cookies

This recipe came from a wonderful neighbor of ours when I was a child. Her mother made these cookies for her boys thus the name of the cookie. Even people who don't like dates and raisins like these cookies.
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
2 eggs
1 cup ground dates or raisins
1 cup sour cream
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. baking soda
4 cups AP flour
dash of salt
Cream sugar, butter and eggs well. Add remaining ingredients and chill dough.
Roll out about 1/4" thick and cut out cookies in desired shapes. We always used a large circle (about 4" diameter) with scallops on the edges.
Bake 375 degrees for 7-10 minutes. Do not over bake. These cookies don't really get brown but just a little puffy and set.
Store in airtight container, these cookies are better when completely cooled and keep a long time.
