Not much cooking going on here, we're steam-cleaning the tiles in the kitchen area tomorrow so we're moving everything we can out of those rooms today. I may do pork chops on the grill for supper.

We did do smoked pork chops on the grill, but instead of applesauce or apple butter we used some of the tomato relish I made a few days ago. Changes the flavor profile a bit but it works very well with the pork.

For dinner, I made salmon patties, which we had open-faced on one of the buns I baked today. I will freeze four of the patties for a future meal.

I hope that you feel better soon, Joan.

On Monday morning, I made broccoli salad. I also made a triple recipe of Sloppy Joes. I am in charge of the first night's dinner at my husband's cousins' reunion, so I worked ahead. Usually, I use ground turkey and make Sloppy Josephines, but we will be having turkey the next night, so I wanted to introduce some variety. I realized, after tasting it, that my usual spices did not have enough umph for ground beef, although I increased the Adobo seasoning. I ended up adding Paprika and some of Penzey's Tsardust seasoning blend. That gave it the taste it needed. I have to avoid intense hot spices for my husband, but need to consider the group at large, so this blend should work.

I'm making a batch of chicken stock from the remains of the rotisserie chicken.

Tonight Will grilled some more chicken tenders - they only had 3 packages at Harris Teeter this morning. I made a green salad with tomatoes and avocado with Caesar Dressing and crispy fried shallots that I made. We're getting ready for the next tropical storm (at least for us), but we are on the left side of the storm this time. I just feel so badly for the people on the West Coast of Florida - it's too much. Has anyone seen the pictures of the traffic evacuating?

We had no-bread tuna melts again for supper. The tomatoes were all around 4 ounces, so I wound up using 4 of them. I doubt I will get a lot more tomatoes out of the garden, no fruit appears to be setting and the vines are pretty picked out. Still a number of small tomatoes (cherry/grape size) but probably nothing larger than 3 ounces and not many of those.

I'm going to try an experimental hydroponics setup for tomatoes over the winter, growing Italian Heirloom and something like Better Bush, both determinates. I planted the Italian Heirloom under the lights last week, they're doing fairly well, I need to start the other plants this week. This will be a Deep Water Culture system. (Aerogarden is also a DWC system, but a lot more automated.) I'll post photos when I get it set up.

I also started 12 more lettuce plants in the Aerogarden on Friday, they've all sprouted already.

We had herbed lamb loin chops with roasted potatoes and green beans. We usually buy the lamb chops at Costco. They are more than an inch and a half thick and they are very reasonably priced. I pinned the recipe from Epicurious and they still allow me to see it even though I am not a subscriber.
