Did anyone save the recent Challah thread on the KAF BC?

I'm not sure if either of the primary participants in it are registered here yet, but I wanted to say that I'm just getting ready to bake and will be posting pictures of two small celebration Challahs, made from one recipe of Peter Reinhart's Challah recipe in BBA. (The three lower strands were 3.65 ounces each and the three upper strands were 1.8 ounces each.)

aaronatthedoublef signed up on Zen's site quite awhile ago. Can't recall who else was on that thread. Aaron did not get on our email list.

Here are the two loaves just before baking:
          Before baking

Here they are after baking. My wife's comment: Not my best work. I agree, I think I 'dropped a stitch' on one of the upper layers, too. I think they'll taste just fine, though.

          After Baking

Here's a closer shot of one loaf with a ruler to show size:

          After Baking (with ruler)

I left a post over on Zen's site saying there were pix here.

I can't remember the name of the other participant in that thread, she and Aaron exchanged several interesting notes on Challah traditions and lore.

That sounds about right, Cass. Now, how can we get her and Aaron active here?

Mike, I have that thread in a PDf on my laptop desktop. Just trying to figure out how to edit and post it

I think Robin is in the Facebook group. I'll ask DLady and let you know. Maybe she could let her group know that there are recipes and threads here.

I don't know if this is the place, but Randy is shutting down his blog for lack of postings. Sandra Alicante and swirth tried to get some threads going, but . . .

                  It was Robin.

Carol, when you post the thread, the formatting will change anyway, so it has to be adjusted after you put it in. (I'm pasting). I do remember your saying that your threads are "front to back, so that might be a pain to adjust. Perhaps you could just include a note about that?

Sorry to hear he's not getting much traffic, but I've never subscribed to the 'Build it and they will come' philosophy, you have to work at it. (In marketing this is known as the 'Emerson Fallacy'.)

If you can't figure out how to post the thread, email it to me and I'll work on it, might take me a few days to get to it, though. nolan at tssi dot com.

That was never RandyD's intent when he opened his site in April 2009. KAF did not have a way to post pics and many times a pic was vital to the written word. So, he began his blog and the pictures poured in along with the posts.

Picture posting was as easy as copy and paste, something few other sites have that are easy to use at all.

Growing his blog was not the intent at all. There are so many pics along with recipes throughout his blog.

He has had two other blogs just for enjoyment with different themes...many such blogs exist with no intent to grow but just to provide a gathering place for like minds and to share things the followers enjoy and learn from.

I follow birding forums and gardening forums where it does not matter if they grow or not. These forums have been going for years and will likely continue for a long time.

We've lost so many long-time BCers since the KAF shut-down...really sad and I doubt they will ever join us again as we had the same thing happen with the oldBC shut-down.

One long time BCer told me, I don't know where or IF I will sign up...we are all scattered and it is hard to keep up with all of our family.

While I never joined Randy's blog, I like to go there and read. I copied off his cinnamon rolls recipe to try.

Sarah, you are highlighting an important point about community: Relationships have to be worked at in order to be maintained and to grow. They don't just happen. I think that the work that Mike is doing, and that all of us are doing by posting old threads and the treasure trove of recipes, will bring some people back. If someone googles a screen name or recipe name, this site will begin to come up, and they will discover that it is even better than what we had at the Baking Circle. It takes a leap of faith, having lost one community, to join another. As a Navy brat, I'm more used to it than others may be.

Some people also may be taking a break, and that happened on the Baking Circle as well. Ron was there before I was, but he left before I joined, and only came back in the past six months or so. I really miss his puns! Also, some people see a baking site as "temptation" to bake, eat. and gain weight. We had even some long-time BCs comment that that was why they stayed away from KAF.

I miss a lot of people who are not here. I do hope that they will find us again. I'm also looking forward to welcoming new people.

I heard from MaryAnn and she said Robin was having trouble getting in here and maybe would contact you. I gave her your email again (written out) and said that some people were having issues do to your extra spam protection.

Ruth had her puppies 2 weeks ago - 2 red Brindle girls, a red girl and a red boy. Each weighs over 1lb and she's a great mom. They have eye slits and all should be open by Wed. MaryAnn's laptop died, so she's going to send me some pix. Could I then forward them to you, Mike, to get them uploaded?

If we can't find any other way to get them posted, I can probably upload them somewhere (not sure where), but in general I'd rather spend 15 minutes teaching someone how to do something than 5 minutes doing it for them, especially because in the process I might learn something that will make it easier for the next person.

I've been involved in online communities since the late 80's, and have seen dozens of them come and go. I still miss some of them.

Carol...Randy's site is still up for awhile so you could put them there. I mentioned there that I was hoping DL would put pics of her pups there. She always put so many pics there.

When I tried to post a pic here to try it out, when I hit Search File it takes me to my computer pics but my pic was not stored there.

I just posted the big loaf of challah thread. I wasn't positive this morning that I saved it but I did at the last minute.
