      Bloomin onion

      INSTRUCTIONS
      4 Onions
      2-1/2 C. all Purpose flour, divided
      4 t. paprika
      2 t. garlic powder
      1/2 t. pepper
      1/4 t. cayenne pepper
      1/2 C. constarch
      1 C. water
      oil for deep frying

      Cut off the top portion of each onion and peel away first layer of onion skin. Make several vertical slices through onions, being carful not to cut through the bottom of the onions. Allow onions to sit in ice water, covered, for about 4 hours to open. Combine 2 cups flour and spices. Dip onions in seasoned floured mixture; shake off excess. In separate bowl, combine remaining flour, cornstarch and water. Dip onion in second batter; shake off excess mixture. In deep fryer, add enough oil to cover onion and fry each onion at 350 degres for about 5-7 minutes.
