Thanks. I lost track of this page and found it again.
February 1, 2025 at 7:02 pm #45403Cage Free eggs at Trader Joe's are 3.49 a dozen. The ordinary eggs are still $7.49 a dozen. I'm baking pizza dough with a plain egg free recipe.
Hi Patty!!February 1, 2025 at 9:34 pm #45407Eggs were about $4.20 a dozen at Sams Club today in a 2 dozen clear package.
February 1, 2025 at 10:27 pm #45412With the new tariffs (more accurately, consumer taxes) going into effect, we can expect higher prices on a lot of food. Someone at the farmers market today told me that a lot of the seed comes from Mexico, not just fruits and vegetables.
February 3, 2025 at 2:35 pm #45433I paid $5.29 for organic omega 3 eggs from Whole Foods today. This egg has always been a premium price, although not the highest, Whole Foods carries some from smaller producers that cost more (they also have lower cost options). When I bought this egg 2 weeks ago, it was also $5.29 then. I checked my orders from a year ago (I order online so I have access to that) and I paid $5.49 back then. While not significant, it went down a little.
I wonder too, if the tariffs on Canada will put upward pressure on egg prices and other foods. I look at the country of origin on packaged food items and see that a number of them come from Canada. I think we all know from experience, when the price of one brand goes up, all the others are likely to follow.

February 5, 2025 at 1:37 pm #45453CNBC had two interesting news items regarding eggs. Apparently egg hijacking is starting to become an issue, an egg producer in PA had a trailer full of eggs (100K eggs worth $40K) stolen.
Also, Waffle House has started adding an 'egg surcharge' to restaurant bills.
I saw a an 18 pack of eggs at Super Saver the other day for $12.98, I'm hoping that was a pricing error and not a trend.
February 5, 2025 at 2:16 pm #45455I just read about the egg theft. I wonder if the thief had a customer already lined up, like a restaurant chain or retail store.
I think the Waffle House fifty cents per egg surcharge is excessive. But they'll probably get away with it.
$12.98 for an 18 pack sounds excessive too, sounds like they're taking advantage of the situation.
February 5, 2025 at 2:37 pm #45457I haven't been back to that store to check on it, and maybe I misread it, but it was right across from the case where large eggs were about $4.98/dozen.
February 5, 2025 at 2:40 pm #45458If I'm reading the news right, both Mexico and Canada have been given a 30 day pause on tariffs in return for some promises on other issues (Mexico will try to deal with fentanyl smuggling), so it may be more of a negotiating tactic.
February 5, 2025 at 5:00 pm #45459It wasn't much of a negotiating tactic, since Mexico and Canada agreed to do what they were already doing under the previous administration, although the president of Mexico extracted a promise that the U.S. would work to stem the flow of high-capacity guns flowing into Mexico from the U.S. The steep dip in the stock market when the "tariffs" were announced also does not suggest great negotiation tactics.
I haven't seen such a high price on 18-packs of eggs around here. It was more like $8.95. Our local grocery did post a sign that they were going to carry fewer brands of eggs, probably because they can do better at bulk pricing that way.
February 6, 2025 at 9:05 am #45464Not to make anyone feel bad but I purchased 18 large eggs from Weiss with my 100 points for $2.99. Maybe they were from the theft. (I am in Pa,)
February 6, 2025 at 4:54 pm #45466Glad you got a such a hot deal, Navlys. If the egg police come knocking on your door, you don't have to answer it!
February 6, 2025 at 7:20 pm #45471The press has been having fun with egg puns:
Police have yet to crack the case.
No breaks in stolen egg case.
Egg companies plan to crack down on security.
Are thieves hatching plots to steal eggs?
February 6, 2025 at 11:40 pm #45473I'm seeing reports that wholesale prices for eggs in the midwest are running $7.03 a dozen. Ouch!
