Chef Joël Robuchon, whose chain of restaurants amassed more Michelin stars than any chef since the Guide started, has died after a long illness. He sold his restaurants to an investment fund when he fell ill.
Robuchon's ability to elevate ordinary dishes like mashed potatoes led to his being named the best chef of the 20th century.
