18 count eggs were about $8.49 at Walmart today.
On the news this morning they said that egg prices have gone down for the third week in a row. They cited lower demand in part for the decline. I felt that consumer panic buying was a large part of the price increases.
Yesterday I paid $6.09 for a dozen of ordinary white eggs, the highest price I have paid. So, still waiting for those lower prices to show up here.
At Costco and WF they are back to pre-surge prices. Last week I bought five dozen large white for $22.59 at Costco. One man was stunned by the price but I pointed out that was under $5/dozen. 18 large white eggs were $7.99. Yesterday WF cage free large brown eggs were $5.95.
Is demand down now? People here are already buying for Easter which puts a premium on white eggs. It's the only time during the year our local WFs sell white eggs.
I hope the egg prices go down. I'm about to start Easter baking and all my recipes are egg rich.
The egg prices were up at Aldi's last week, but I bought a dozen brown eggs at the farmers market a week ago for $4, which was the price I was paying for them last year.
I read a story that the customs authority has been intercepting a lot more eggs than fentanyl at the Mexican border because eggs cost much less there.
It's a little late for St. Patrick's Day, but this egg cartoon says it all.
BTW, a dozen eggs were $5.99 at my local grocery for a dozen.
Egg sales around Easter have often been loss-leaders, that might happen again in 2025, but with tight limits on quantities.
I like the cartoon BA go.
