Black frosting without dyes

My son sent me this link to a site that has a Halloween cake with a black frosting that is achieved without using dyes, just with black cocoa.

This is essentially a buttercream frosting. I don't have any black cocoa, this might give me an excuse to buy some.

Love this website. I'd like to try some of the frosting recipes. Cakes are something that needs to be shared so I'll have to wait until social gatherings are safer.

I bought a cake one time for ? I don't rmember but it had black icing and that stuff got everywhere and stained everything.

If the icing used black dye, I'm not surprised it got everywhere.
