3/4 cup honey
1 cup fine sugar
1 1/2 Tblsp cinnamon
2 cups flour – sifted
1/4 cup kirsh
1/2 cup chopped and blanched almonds
1/2 cup hazelnuts – chopped
1/3 cup candied orange and lemon peel – finely chopped
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Preheat oven to 350 F
Put honey in sauce pan with the sugar and cinnamon - cook together over low heat until sugar had dissolved.
Remove from heat and stir in half the flour, the kirsh, nuts and orange and lemon peel.
Turn the mixture onto a well floured surface and knead in the remaining flour.
Spread the dough about 1/4-inch thick on one or more greased and floured baking sheet and sprinkle the top lightly with flour.
Bake in preheated oven for about 20 min. or until golden brown.
Turn out of the pan and while still warm, cut the lelkerlies in half horizontally with a sharp knife. Brush off any excess flour and cut into bars.
Dust pieces with confectioners sugar and cool on a wire rack
