Joan, I'm watching the Jacksonville news and I see where you are right in the path of the storm. Please stay safe during this storm and I hope you don't sustain any damage.

Since we are to the west we are expecting tropical winds and rain.

Has anyone heard from Joan? I heard that Valdosta was hit very hard and I'm worried.

You all probably know a lot more about the devastation everywhere than I do. We were hit much harder than anticipated, but nothing like what happened west of us. We lost cell and power Friday am around 1:30 and got our cell service back around 6:00 last night. This is my first time accessing the internet - in an hour I probably won't be able to as people wake up. Most of the island has power, but we're not expected to get it until 10 tomorrow night.

We had mostly wind damage - there appear to have been mini tornadoes and lots of big trees done - many uprooted because of the saturated ground we have from our rainy September. In our complex alone there are 10 trees down, 3 damaging roofs of 4 condos, but no one hurt. We are all very grateful that we were spared worse.
I pray for all those people in the direct line of this storm - the devastation is enormous - with whole towns being lost. I hope that all your friends and family are safe

I'm relieved to hear that you are ok, CWCdesign.

I'm assuming that Joan lost power and internet access. I'm hoping that we will hear from her once it is restored, but it will take a while.

Maybe we should ask people in areas that are going to be hit by storms and hurricanes to have a close contact, to whom they report, who can post on Nebraska Kitchen, so that we know the person is safe.

I gather that Valdosta was hit as badly as the awful pictures you've been seeing of places like Tallahassee - she might not even have cell service.

At least I can text and call - I'm surprised I was able to get online right now - I haven't been able to see any news or weather - I heard there are 3 more hurricanes brewing in the Atlantic now. I get a better chance at 6:00 before everyone wakes up and starts using their phones. It's now possible we won't have power until Tuesday morning. We're all hoping it might be sooner

Y'all I'm safe and I'm alive. Very thankful praise the Lord we made it through another storm. This was the worst one I've ever been through. I thought the roof of my house was gonna blow off. I didn't have any damage to the house just limbs in the yard lots of debris, but that's nothing, I have seen so much destruction. It just breaks my heart. My sister-in-law that lives behind me. They had another tree to go through their roof , a tree to fall on one of their cars and lots of yardwork . We have no power or lights or running water .My neighbor loaned me a generator and I can have my refrigerator and a light, charge my phone and even the microwave so I can't complain. It's hot but we'll make it.
Our town and surrounding counties have so much devastation. It is unbelievable. My friend had a tree to go through her kitchen and one to go through her living room and they probably had 30 trees in their yard down. It look like toothpicks broken all over the place. There's all kind of search and rescue and the linemen are working around the clock. But we're Okay and thank you all for the prayers .As my mother in law use to say "And this too shall pass ".Yes I was Scared. Cwcdesign I'm glad you're okay and little damage.

Thanks for the update, Joan. Glad to hear you didn't suffer a lot of damage, even if your neighbors did.

One of my clients uses a data center in SC that has been mostly offline since Friday evening, it sounds like it'll be a while before they get it back online.

Joan, I'm so glad to hear your OK. I'm sorry for the devastation around you.

We had a great surprise - our power came back on around 7 tonight. I was really sure that it wasn't going to happen so quickly. And, that will free up the workers to go help in some of the places that have really been devastated

It is good to hear from you Joan, and I'm glad you had no damage. However, it is so hard to see the devastation around you and what your relatives and friends have experienced. Best wishes as you start the clean-up phase, and I hope you get your power back soon.

Joan and CWCdesign, I'm glad to hear that you're safe and have power back. Modern society is so dependent on electricity that it's become a necessity of life.

Len, thank you. What was weird was, my neighbors and I were OK without the power, but it was the lack of cellphone service where you couldn't reach anyone that had us all stressed. For us, it didn't hurt that the days were sunny and we didn't get much rain with the storm. We are thankful for all the little blessings and pray for those who were so devastated by it all.
