I talked to my resident Mr. Fix It and the news is not good for repair. The only hope is that the beaters themselves are the issue. There is supposed to "ears" on them so they click into place.
Check to see if they are worn or broken. If they are not then it is the latching mechanism and there is no way to fix that. Which is sad because it relegates the mixer to a landfill. Small hand appliances are not usually made to be fixed. I am lucky because Mr. Fix It enjoys a challenge and if it doesn't go back together nothing is lost. I still have to buy a new one. But occasionally I get lucky. My ancient steam iron did get fixed but it is of a vintage where that was still possible. Same with our vacuum cleaners. I have two ancient Hoovers that I refuse to replace because nothing on the market now is 1/4 as good. I am also fortunate that there is a vacuum repair place not roo far away that we can get parts from.Detroit pizza for us tonight. The dough is mixing as I'm writing this. It is 2hr rise then a 30 minute rest before it can go in the oven. Plenty of time to dice up the cheese!
I made cornbread and Polish Kolocz - a yeasted cheese bread.
This week is even busier. I made boneless pork roast with baked squash and cheesy mashed potatoes. I also made a rotisserie chicken in the air fryer with corn and cornbread. There is also a roasted boneless turkey breast for lunch sandwiches.
It has been very busy in the kitchen. We had cabbage rolls, Hatch green chili stew and stuffed Melrose peppers. The Hatch chilies and Melrose peppers are seasonal so I stashed some in the freezer for future.
Len - so true about the tiny shrimp on Chicago pizzas. I discovered them on a Friday in Lent when just cheese pizza wasn't going to do. Seems like that is only time I have it that way. I should remember it more often as it is pretty tasty.
We have seen fireflies since the end of June but not as many as I have previously. They are a great source of entertainment here because the goofy dog chases them and attempts to catch them. So far he has not been successful.
The grocery store one is for sure true. They just rearranged the local Meijer here not that long ago and it still makes no sense how they decided what to put where.
My deepest condolences Joan. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Wishing you a very happy birthday Cass!
This is so very cool. I have something similar that I use at work that calculates gross margin that I thought I could adapt at some point time permitting. I never did get around to it but now I don't have to.
Thank you for sharing!
Pizza on the grill is divine. I build the pizza directly on my pizza stone and then pop it on the grill for 18 minutes or so. I use exclusively charcoal so the hot coals are in a circle at the outer edge of the grate with a big space in the middle with no direct heat.
Once the pizza is done it slides right off the stone with just a regular metal spatula onto a pizza pan. I don't use cornmeal or anything else on the stone. I do it this way when I make pizza in the oven too. Nothing ever sticks to it. I think the first couple of times way back when a couple of spots might have stuck but not for a very long time.
If I had an actual pizza oven (very wishful thinking) I would have to use a peel. I'd be leaning towards wood. We had friends who owned a pizza parlor business in the city and they swore by wood peels. Could just have been their personal preference though.
We had steak, french fries and corn on the cob. Kind of ordinary but tasty!
Baker Aunt - I did email you for the right address. The email address I have for you is first name last name at att dot net. Not sure that is right though. Mine is also an att dot net address so maybe it got caught in junk mail. I can try again. Thanks.
Happy Birthday Cass! I sent you a "wire" but the post office is none too reliable lately. Enjoy your day and I hope it is wonderful.
